UGC NET Eligibility Criteria 2021 for JRF & Assistant Professor: In this blog, we are about to discuss the complete eligibility criteria for the posts of a junior research fellowship and assistant professor including age limit and upper age relaxation, education qualification to qualify UGC NET June-Dec 2021 examinations, application form, exam dates, and syllabus.

Eligibility Criteria for UGC NET May 2021

Candidates must check their eligibility criteria before applying for the UGC Net 2021 exam. National Testing Agency (NTA) is the first step and mandatory to clear for becoming a lecturer or doing a research fellowship in well-known Indian Universities and Colleges. UGC NET Dec 2020 exam will be held by NTA from 2nd May to 17th May 2021 via Computer Based Test (CBT) for various Subjects at chose exam centers across the country.

UGC NET Educational Qualification (May 2021)

The required educational qualification for assistant professor applicants and Junior Research Fellow (JRF) candidates are the same. To get a chance to appear in the UGC NET May 2021 exam, you need to fulfill the following criteria of academic qualification. 

  • General / Unreserved / General Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates who have gotten a minimum of 55% marks in Master Degree or similar examination from UGC recognized universities are permitted for UGC NET May 2021 test.
  • The other backward categories like OBC Non-Creamy Layer / Scheduled Caste (SC) / Schedule Tribe (ST) / Person with Disability (PwD) / Transgender applicants should have a minimum of 50% marks in Master’s degree or similar to apply for the UGC NET 2021.
  • Aspirants who are appearing for their Master’s degree or similar course or have given their final year examinations and the result is still awaited or candidates whose final year exams have been postponed can also apply for the UGC NET JRF/assistant professor test. But, the applicants will be only eligible when they get at least 55% marks in their master’s degree for the unreserved category (50% marks for OBC-NCL / SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender). If the candidate fails to qualify for their masters, they will be considered disqualified.
  • Ph.D. holders whose master’s degree has been accomplished by 19 September 1991, will be entitled to a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (from 55% to 50%) for appearing in the NTA UGC NET Exam, 2021. Check out the list of Post-Graduation subjects and their codes.

Age Limit & Age Relaxation

UGC NET set different age limits for assistant professors and JRF as they are different from each other.

Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) – For JRF, the age of the candidate should not be more than 31 years as on the 1st day of the month of which the examination is held i.e. 01 March 2021 for the UGC NET May 2021 examination.

  • 5 years’ age relaxation is given in the upper age limit for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC, ST, Pwd, and third gender category.
  • 3 years’ age relaxation is permitted for the candidates with an L. L. M. degree.
  • 5 years’ age relaxation is allowed for the applicants who have served in armed forces subject till the UGC NET exam is held.
  • The total age relaxation should not exceed more than five years in any circumstances.

Assistant Professor – There are not any upper age limit criteria for UGC NET candidates applying for NTA UGC NET Assistant professor.

UGC NET May 2021 Application Fees

The application fee for the NTA UGC NET exam varies as per the candidate categories. The UGC NET exam fee is non-refundable once the payment is done. UGC NET Applicants can make the payment via credit card / debit card / net banking / Paytm or e-challan.

The category-based application fee details –

  • For General / Unreserved / OBC (Creamy Layer): Rs. 1000 /-
  • For OBC (Non – creamy layer): Rs. 500 /-
  • SC / ST / PwD / Transgender: Rs. 250/-

UGC NET 2021 Admit Card

Admit cards will be announced in April 2021 by National Testing Agency. All the eligible applicants can download the admit card via Bharat Sarkar Yojna or UGC NET official website.

UGC NET 2021 Exam Pattern

UGC NET Exam 2021 will be held in May 2021 via Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only. UGC NET test pattern is conducted in two parts. Qualifying in both papers is mandatory to get a chance to become an assistant manager or junior research fellow. Both papers have objective-type questions and there will not be any break between these two papers.

UGC NET 2021 Syllabus

UGC NET Answer Key

After the UGC NET exam 2021 is over, NTA will announce the answer key in MAY 2021. Applicants can check the UGC NET official website and download the answer key online. Some educational institutes release the answer key based on subject wide papers.

UGC NET 2021 Result

As per the National Testing Agency, UGC NET May 2021 result will be announced in June 2021. Applicants can check and download their results from UGC NET official website. To review your results, you must have the application number, roll number, and date of birth. Candidates should check the scoreboard to ensure that they are eligible for the assistant professor or junior research fellowship.

UGC NET May 2021 Exam Cut Off

UGC NET cut-off will be available online by the NTA authorities once the UGC entrance test is done. Subject-wise and category-wise merit lists will be published after securing more marks than the cut-off marks.

UGC NET 2021 Selection Procedure

Only the top 6% of qualifying candidates who have appeared in both papers I and paper II will be considered as qualified applicants.  Assistant professors or Junior Research Fellowships will be given based on their cut-off scores and categories. The top 15% of candidates from unreserved and relaxed categories will be named eligible for the assistant professor position only.
